My child had Strep B at 5 weeks in 1993. They didn't test you for that at the time. We were in the hospital for a week and around 4 times until he was two. We are very lucky he is normal. (I also have a five year old, but I was tested at the time and had antibiotics. We both went home after 48 hours.) If I would have known how serious it was, I would have taken him to Children's Clinic. I think more people should be aware of this and take caution. The doctor that saw my son didn't even explain anything to me and acted like it was nothing. I started reading on it myself and moved doctors after a week to the Children's Clinic. My son did quit breathing several times, but no damage was done. We were very fortunate.
