My daughter was born on the 11th of November 1999 and was rushed straightaway to the newborn intensive care unit at our local hospital. I wasn't told why and didn't know that I was a carrier of GBS until 3 days later when the midwife told me the result of the swab that they had taken. I then asked if that was what was wrong with my daughter and was told to speak to the doctor who then confirmed this. I was both frustrated and scared for her as nobody could give me any information on GBS. My daughter left the hospital eight days later and is a perfectly happy, healthy almost five year old. I understand that not everybody is as lucky as me, but I thank my lucky stars that she is okay and I do think about the people who are not as fortunate as I am.
