Kim's baby   — Kim Milliner, ON, Canada

I am a Type 1 Diabetic who had an uneventful pregnancy until about Feb. 5, 1999 when I was 34 weeks pregnant. I developed a very high fever. My husband took me to the hospital and we were told that our baby had died. The ER OB used an ultrasound device to diagnose this. Lots of blood tests were taken and we were finally given the diagnosis that I had an infection called chorioamnionitis. This week while talking to my MD, he told me that this infection is almost always caused by Group B strep. On researching via the internet, I found that chorioamnionitis is the term to describe Group B strep infection before birth. Since 1999, my husband and I have been unable to conceive a second child. We are currently pursuing IUI and OI treatments through a fertility clinic.
