Noelle's Story   — Alexa Chavious, MA, USA

Noelle was delivered on 6/16 when I had a gush of water, but I believe I had a leak in fluid two days before. Two days before her birth, we went to the hospital and got sent home while I was 4 cm dilated and 100% effaced. She came out, did not cry but was grunting.. yet still got a 7 and 8 on the APGAR. Two hours later she was admitted to the NICU where they determined she had sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis. Noelle spent 15 days in the NICU undergoing repeated painful procedures and by the second day, they were unsure if she was going to live.. now she is three months old, and we are watching for signs from the meningitis. When I was pregnant and asked the OB what this meant, they said even if you are NOT treated with antibiotics in labor, there is a tiny to no chance of her being sick from it.
