C.J.'s story   — Tracey Meskers, WI, USA

My son C.J. was stillborn on his due date, November 4, 2006. I believe it was due to a false negative GBS test (the doctor wasn't sure how to do it and kept referring to the nurse). I had several warning signs of infection such as a yeast infection (told to use over the counter meds--no check) and a bladder infection (told to take anitbiotic--Macrobid which is not to be taken after the 38th week or with the onset of labor and delivery). C.J. was sent to the Wisconsin Stillbirth Center in Madison, WI where the final autopsy report could only conclude that it was due to an infection but not specifically what germ. C.J.'s heart rate dropped to 60 bpm during labor and the nurse had me prepped for a c-section but when the doctors arrived neither called it. I believe C.J. would be here today had it not been for the multi dimensional errors that took place. I am extremely frustrated with the medical profession trying to avoid any discussion in fear of litigation. I was not even sent a sympathy card from the hospital. Something needs to be done!!! I am a school teacher with a masters degree--I did not smoke, drink, do drugs... This can and will happen again. I want to do whatever I can to make a change. Please let me know what I can do. I want to start an organization in this area--we are so uninformed here--it's the idea that it doesn't happen anymore. Please help!!!
