Karlie's Story   — Kathie Apland, CA, USA

My beautiful baby girl was born March 29, 2000. Two hours after she was born I called the nurse and told her my other two children did not cry and breathe like this. The nurse quickly came in and off Karlie went to the NICU. I was told she had GBS and I had no clue what they were talking about. My Doctor "forgot" to test me and the hospital did not catch that I hadn't been tested either. After several days of Doctors telling us Karlie was not going to make it, by a miracle she is now 11 years old. Karlie is severely mentally retarded, has seizures, and severe speech delay. I am though truly thankful that she is here with us today.
